Registration & Reregistration

Overall Evaluation

University of California, Davis

June 10-14, 2001

WHAT WERE THE STRENGTHS OF THIS COURSE? WHAT DID YOU VALUE MOST?

bulletGreat introduction to registration and reregistration issues and concerns. Great networking opportunity for all participants and wealth of information.
bulletBest EPA/state interaction of a PREP course (6) I’ve been to.
bulletContact w/federal regulators - good to know internal thinking.
bulletEstablishment of rapport with other state and EPA personnel and identification and resolution of issues
bulletStubbs needed to go into more detail, give definitions of SLNs etc. for new people.
bulletGood course. It’s nice to see what goes on behind the scenes to an extent.
bulletExtremely useful to meet and talk to participants. EPA HQ participation was key. Too much food!
bulletAn excellent course that I hope has a bright future, as I would like to attend myself and send others of my staff.
bulletInteraction w/counterparts, problem sharing/solving. Agra Quest field trip.
bulletInteractive participation is valuable. Work groups would be helpful/enjoyable to bring topics up instead of each state.
bulletMeeting others from EPA and state was valuable. Exchange of ideas was helpful and learning more about EPA process was enlightening.
bulletGood mix of state and agency personnel.
bulletKnowledge, discussion.
bulletThe HQ participants - it was good to get an opportunity to meet them. For a new person like myself there was a lot of valuable information that will help give me a better understanding.
bulletOpportunity to develop an understanding and registration requirements of the registration process.
bulletThe course provided valuable information.
bulletThe opportunity to meet and communicate with other states and the EPA in a casual atmosphere. All the speakers and presenters did a great job, but I especially enjoyed Brian Steinwand, cynical yet practical; Dennis Edwards, topic of interest; and Jim Stone, quietly effective. The EPA has provided an excellent forum for education and communication that greatly benefits the regulatory community. Suzanne Forsyth did an excellent job of coordinating. Bob McNally had an impressive body of knowledge and presentation style. Jake is a great host and facilitator. Please continue the program.
bulletGood overview for new pesticide registration and reregistration process, good summaries from various states to compare how my state fits. Very valuable course for people who register pesticides at state level, good to know who to contact.
bulletListening to presentations of EPA staff and listening to discussion between EPA staff and states and all of the issues the states face with registration and re-registration.
bulletGood overview of pesticide registration and enforcement on a federal and state level.
bulletGood to meet w/HQ staff and other states. Sharing experience was very valuable.
bulletBringing EPA HQ, region and states together for discussion.
bulletHopefully future Reg/Rereg course could be available to assist registration personnel – maybe 3-4 days, shorter than this session.
bulletGood faculty/presenter choices. Good opportunity for networking between participants.

HOW COULD THIS COURSE BE IMPROVED?

bulletSeparate evaluation forms for each speaker, would like to see greater variety of speakers (too much reliance on a few individuals); screen speakers (not everyone is a good speaker); vary audiovisuals (too much PowerPoint); overall, a very well put together program. All physical needs (food) were met, and transportation and lodging. Helped make the training effective and enjoyable. Thank you - P.S. I plan on winning that t-shirt one day!
bulletMore state discussion like on the last day. Some fewer talking heads. Best of luck Suzanne.
bulletThe field trip was disorganized (due to the wind.)
bulletMore hands on, examples of bad data sets. More info on different categories of RUP’s aquatic organism concerns vs. reproductive concerns etc., and why RUP classification.
bulletKeep broad EPA and regional participation. Expand field trip.
bulletNeed to talk about 24(c)s more and spend more time on state issues other then what EPA does for a living – keep Jake involved as staff/consultant.
bulletNO Sundays, shorten days.
bulletMore product manager participation/info.
bulletEveryone in registration should have an opportunity to attend a PREP course.
bulletFewer topics w/more intense discussion of each.
bulletOrganizing things to do.
bulletMore participant participation.
bulletThe format had too much lecture rather than an interactive process. An exercise where we broke into groups and actually "registered" or "re-registered" a pesticide would have been very interesting. The field trips were irrelevant, although I was disappointed that the weather didn’t allow our boat trip. My frustration with this course (which has nothing to do with them but is my problem) is that I’m rarely able to put the many ideas I get into action. I’m still trying though.
bulletMaybe presenters could incorporate more actual/real time examples.
bulletSLN section was weak.
bulletHave a couple of PMs take the class.
bulletEach state have more and more participation.
bulletNO HQ staff should attend unless they are expert enough in an area to give a presentation. This would reduce number of "canned" presentations by people who could answer questions about the subject. HQ management - the more the better - they are very valuable, even if they don’t present.
bulletNeed more input from participants on their state programs.

HOW WILL YOU APPLY WHAT YOU LEARNED?

bulletBetter communication with EPA and states.
bulletWill improve my presentation. Will establish regional communication.
bulletAssisting my work.

bulletHelp with strategies to better access the agency.
bulletI had a better understanding of the role of the EPA and states and how I fit into the big picture.
bulletImproved interaction with my state and federal college.
bulletUse the web for more info and communication.
bulletEPA headquarters presentations are essential.
