Risk Communication for Pesticide Regulators

This course will explore the role of risk communication in addressing public and environmental health issues. The discrepancy between actual pesticide risk and public perception will be addressed, as well as the concept of 'competing risks' (vector-borne diseases vs. chemical exposure, mycotoxin exposure vs. fungicide risk and low risk/organic products vs. conventional pesticides). The course will present a wide array of risk communication issues, but will maintain a practical focus on the everyday challenges faced by pesticide regulators.
