Senior Executive Program
Management Course

Overall Evaluation

University of California, Davis

August 7-9, 2007

WAS THE AGENDA FOR THIS COURSE ADEQUATE AND DID IT MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS?

bulletI feel this was the best PREP so far. Great involvement by all. Met expectations.
bulletYes, agenda was adequate and allowed me to step back from a very stressful job situation to do some re-evaluation.
bulletYes.
bulletYes and more: the success of this PREP has been its participants; sharing work experiences can be more informative at times than hearing lectures from the experts.
bulletThe agenda was well organized and well thought out. I never got bored – the time slots were right on. Roundtable discussions are the way to go with this class. The room & set-up was great.
bulletYes. The roundtable sessions were the best. I like the concept of student-teacher. As was said at the beginning of the course, the exchange of information with each other is one of the best components of the meeting. I will recommend this to my boss if repeated next year.
bulletYes.
bulletI had no special expectations but the course was well organized with good content. Allowed group participation and information sharing. The presentation on collaboration was ineffective, still good subject, but different speaker or refocus talk. Liked roundtable format.
bulletYes, I will use the information at some point. Lots of information that will come to use at the appropriate time and situation. Keep the roundtables.
bulletYes – always a great networking opportunity and way to share information.
bulletYes.
bulletGreatly so!
bulletIt exceeded my expectations. This may very well be the best training course in my 30+ year career. Roundtable discussions are excellent. Personnel discipline would be an excellent roundtable.
bulletWell organized and orchestrated.
bulletYes – Really liked talking about non-pesticide issues such as succession planning, safety, etc.
bulletVery good agenda, great interaction, only exception to this was the collaboration session. Attendee stories would have been much better.
bulletThe agenda was useful, practical and challenging. Overall great speakers – only one weak spot.
bulletYes. The sessions with the exception of the collaboration one were very good.

WHAT COULD THE PREP PLANNERS HAVE DONE TO MAKE THIS COURSE MORE USEFUL TO YOU?

bulletRethink roundtable topics.
bulletI would like to hear more about succession planning and more suggestions on practical examples for reducing stress in the workplace.
bulletThe least successful session for me was the collaboration session. As we likely all have to do this, I would remove the topic.
bulletDid a good job. The information roundtable was very good. I think using the notes as handouts would have been useful to ensure we covered everything.
bulletThere was a lot of discussion regarding managing staff. How about dumping the collaboration session and add a management (of staff) roundtable – what works, what doesn’t, etc. We are all experienced managers so there is likely a lot of information to share regarding staff.
bulletInclude sources other than PREP and PIRT for professional development (if there are others).
bulletYes – I think three days is fine. The last day was worth the whole trip.
bulletCongrats for yet another outstanding job!
bulletAll presenters should be at the site when giving presentations.
bulletFor environmental/enforcement measures consider EPA presenter for 1 hour AND a state lead agency presenter. (I would be willing to present – I was at early Fed/State meetings after GPRA, and was on my own agency’s indicator design team – John Orrok).
bulletInformation on personnel management, labor & union relations.
bulletHave a few more presentations & fewer roundtables. I like the roundtables but need more solution & less listing of the problems. Maybe same # of roundtables but really focus on solutions.
bulletOutdoor sessions were really great. HR Issues, disciplinary action.
bulletNot much as I understand the collaboration speaker was not the planned one – last minute change.
bulletI don’t know. Leadership is a broad enough topic that one will always have some things we have heard before and some things new or in a new light. Round robin discussions are great but should be balanced with dissemination.

IF THIS COURSE WAS TO BE HELD AGAIN IN THE FUTURE, CAN YOU SUGGEST FACULTY WHO COULD SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVE THE AGENDA?

bulletMichele Jackman is very dynamic and provides excellent interactive exercises that are very useful in day to day management.
bulletPerhaps an HR professional to discuss generational succession planning. "Hiring the next generation."
bulletEven if you have heard him before, Father Miles is Always a great way to end the meeting.
bulletFather Miles & Rick Hansen were both excellent – invite them back. Organization – multiple projects issues. Dealing with difficult people – personnel issues.
bulletDump Charles Miles! Can’t think of any additions to the others – overall the speakers were great.
bulletYes, a similar course should be developed for inspectors. What they should request from their managers, what can be done to make their jobs easier.
bulletPersonnel management / dealing with personality traits – discipline, authority, public participation class or topic – will email Suzanne.
bulletSomebody new on collaborations.
bulletConsider Steven Covey trainer. Roundtable on performance measurements preceded by an appropriate homework preparation.
bulletKeep Father Miles! Need a new speaker on collaboration – he offered very little in way of innovative suggestions on how.
bulletExecutive from agency to explain budgets. HR – why & why not. Successful programs – How To guidelines.
bulletNot at this time but if a person (or topic) comes to mind I will let you know.

ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS?

bulletKeep the three day format.
bulletThank you all for this opportunity. I have grown from the experience.
bulletVery good. Thank you.
bulletThe session on collaborations with other organizations was my least favorite. While the speaker seemed knowledgeable, the relevance to the industry was not well correlated.
bulletThis was a great opportunity to meet my counterparts. Thanks for a great experience.
bulletI like the three day meeting concept. At this level it is most appropriate.
bulletBetter chairs.
bulletThe roundtable discussions are the best! Please keep this format.
bulletThank you for the transportation to and from the meeting room & hotel. It allowed me to attend. Wonderful logistics & venue.
bulletI thoroughly enjoyed the program. To me the best part was the interactive presentations. The networking is also important.
bulletPoll States beforehand on their emerging issues in several categories – put the most common ones shared on the agenda to make for a most productive session.
bulletThank you! As a newbie this was outstanding and I will recommend highly to others & to come back!
bulletThe IT class could have more examples & could be improved by involving attendees in Northern Cal case histories. I will be happy to assist in course development
bulletI very much appreciate the PREP program & planning committee. The interaction with the other participants is invaluable. Thank you all! With the chaos & pace we all run at – PREP gives us a break & reminds/refreshes me of why I do what I do.
bulletEnjoyed the three-day format.
bulletReally great session. Thank you!
