Risk Communication for Pesticide Regulators

This will be the third year for this very popular course which explores the role of risk communication in addressing public health and environmental health issues. We will focus on both basic communication skills as well as test our abilities to successfully communicate pesticide risks to our customary audiences. The discrepancy between actual pesticide risks and public perceptions will be addressed, as well as the concept of ‘competing risks’ (e.g., vector-borne diseases vs. chemical exposure.) The course will present a wide array of risk communication issues but will maintain a practical focus on the everyday challenges faced by pesticide regulators.
