Laboratory Issues

April 6-9, 2010
At University of California, Davis

Returning after a 10-year hiatus, this course is intended for State and Tribal laboratory directors or supervisors either alone or paired with their SLA compliance/enforcement manager. This course is designed to bring together both aspects of a pesticide regulatory program - aspects dealing with analytical chemistry and the enforcement and program decision-making areas.  Topics may include: new chemicals, methodologies and instrumentation; resource/funding issues;  effective communication with regulatory program/EPA/industry; what to do to ensure you win challenges in court; impacts of nanotechnology and PIPs; contingency planning (i.e. continuation of services during emergency event); laboratory role in emergency pesticide incidents; terrorism and food; national testing consistency; potential areas of collaboration and improving efficiencies; chasing the infinite zero – what to do with such low results?
