This always-popular course will be focused toward State and Tribal FIFRA
Water Quality Specialists. The goal of this course is for participants to
come away with a better understanding of the Pesticides in Water Program by
exploring both the technical and policy aspects of protecting ground and
surface water resources from pesticide risks. Topics may include: Drift
Watch; ground and surface water management
programs, plans, and protocols; sediment sampling programs & protocols;
state show and tell of cutting edge mapping technology; mitigation
strategies for reducing runoff in the urban environment; sharing management
techniques for the “list of 57”; building partnerships with other offices to
stretch resources; applicator basics and ag-background basics related to
pesticides for the groundwater quality state people without an agricultural
background, and vice-versa; the difference between USGS pesticide monitoring
mechanisms, objectives, outcomes, interpretations, and also those of some of
the different states; and lack of recent (less than 5 years old), high
quality pesticide use data available, or sharing of techniques and data
sources from which to do guesstimates.
