Pesticide Worker Safety
September 24-27, 2012
University of California, Davis
Returning after a 6-year hiatus, the focus of this course will depend on
when the anticipated Worker Safety rules are published in the Federal
Register. If the regulation changes are published by May of 2012,
the course will focus
on the
specifics of the regulation proposals and the rationale for the changes.
Course topics in this scenario might include: facilitation of input from
states on potential implementation issues; needed guidance / support
materials and other state program needs; and engagement of states on
development of an implementation strategy.
In this scenario the primary audience will be
worker protection specialists or managers of WPS programs with the
secondary audience made up of certification and training specialists and
university extension representatives. If the rule changes are not
published before May, then the course will have a more traditional C & T
focus whose target audience will be certification and training
specialists and university extension representatives. Course topics in
this scenario might include:
CPARD reporting for SLAs & CESs; soil fumigation issues; recertification
standards, supervision standards, certification exam question
development, training material development; the nature of the regulation
proposals including more detail on the rationale; what EPA hopes to
achieve with the proposed revisions; direction EPA wants to take the
programs with the revisions; and preparing the state regulatory and
state extension for commenting on the rule changes. |
